Nannoworks Researcher Conducts Advanced Sediment Analysis at JAMSTEC for NGHP-02 Thesis

Nannoworks Laboratory graduate student Christine Blessa R. Jabien recently completed a month-long research analysis and training at the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) – Yokosuka Headquarters from July 13 to August 17, 2025.

Jabien’s visit was part of her ongoing master’s thesis, focusing on the characterization of sediment cores from the National Gas Hydrate Program Expedition 02 (NGHP-02). During her stay, she conducted X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis, grain size analysis, and total organic carbon (TOC) analysis. She was supervised by her co-adviser Dr. Maria Luisa Tejada, Senior Research Staff at the Volcanology and Geochemistry Research Group, JAMSTEC – Yokosuka Headquarters, and her thesis reader Dr. Natsue Abe, Senior Research Scientist at the Mantle Drilling Promotion Office, JAMSTEC – Yokohama Headquarters.
