We are inviting our colleagues and fellow fossil enthusiasts to attend the second series of Nannotalks by the International Nannoplankton Association (INA). The second talk in the second series will be delivered by Dr. Blanca Ausín of Salamanca University, Spain, with a title “Nannofossil records in paleoceanographic studies: from qualitative to quantitative.” The meeting is set to be held on the 17th of November, 2021 (14:00 UTC; 22:00 PhilST).
ABSTRACT
Nannofossil records have provided a treasure trove of environmental and climate information since their first application in paleoceanographic studies. Many nannofossils are used as qualitative indicators of past ocean dynamics and conditions based on the study of their modern environmental preferences and ecological affinities. In some cases, their relationship with the environment can be calibrated, giving rise to the implementation of new tools to quantitatively reconstruct past climate and ocean variability.
