Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC), in partnership with The Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development (CANVAS), held their first #AralLakbay event over the weekend at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila. The program, aimed at children of NAC employees, used storytelling, art, and history to teach about climate change.
Geologist Dr. Alyssa Peleo-Alampay, author of I Am the Change in Climate Change, kicked off the day with a talk, followed by a read-along, Q&A, and an interactive tour of a CANVAS art exhibit. Participants praised the program’s approachable way of discussing environmental issues. One child said he enjoyed learning about global warming and Philippine history in a new way.
CANVAS also announced that it has distributed over 500,000 books so far toward its goal of one million, using visual storytelling to promote literacy and environmental awareness. NAC supports these efforts through its foundation.
CANVAS is a non-profit organization that promotes children’s literacy and appreciation for Philippine art and culture by publishing and donating visually rich story books that explore themes such as national identity, environmental stewardship, and social issues.
Beyond Aral Lakbay, NAC, through its philanthropic arm, the NAC Foundation, supports CANVAS and its mission to bring art and literature to children through storytelling and creativity to nurture future generations.
