Over the past two years, graduate students from the Nannoworks Laboratory have continued to excel in their respective fields being recognized by various local and international organizations.
Last 2023, Jorge Padre was awarded the Okada-McIntyre Graduate Research Fellowship by the International Nannoplankton Association Foundation. His work is related to reconstructing past climate with the use of lipid biomarker compounds and calcareous nannofossil abundance records.
In the same year, Meyrick Tablizo was also awarded the Jon C. Graff International Paleontology Award in the 82nd Annual Meeting of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontologists and the Heidimarie Johnson Scholarship in Applied Student Educational Experiences. His work is on the morphology and taxonomy of Elephantoid and other terrestrial vertebrate fossils in the Philippines.
Recently, both Joeven Calvelo and Meyrick Tablizo were awarded the 2024 UP Geology Merit Award in the graduate category. The UP Geology Merit Award is jointly awarded by the National Institute of Geological Sciences and the Iuvenis Orbis Geological Fraternity to deserving students who excel in academic and extracurricular activities. Joeven is a University Research Associate focusing on utilizing statistical methods and calcareous nannofossil abundances in paleoceanographic research.
