On July 9 to 12, 100 visitors consisting of homeschool students and their parents went to the National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) Geology Museum as part of their Alternative Learning Sessions on Earth Science. The groups were headed by Ms. Gracia Padrique, a licensed geologist and alumna of NIGS, and Ms. Jayne Yang. The students, and their parents, learned about minerals, rocks, fossils, natural hazards, and earth resources. NIGS faculty and staff facilitated the tour as the students explored the Museum and participated in activities such as digging for fossil, hunting for special museum specimens, and modelling landscapes in the Augmented Reality Sandbox. The visitors also experienced how to prepare for a natural hazard and as well as how to be a geologists by observing and studying the rock outcrop at the center of the NIGS building. The Museum provided a great learning environment for the students. And many participants said they will come back again.
